You know I used to work in a chocolate factory in a past life. And it wasn't as fun as it sounds. There were no orange Oompa Loompas and certainly no Wily Wonka. My job was to produce easter eggs and consisted of working in a chilled room and filling moulds with melted chocolate, putting the moulds onto a rotating machine that span them round and round in different directions until the whole egg was created. Then when they were dry I had to remove the moulds that were then chilled a bit more before being opened and packed into cardboard boxes. Exciting stuff
There were four shifts per day - with lunch and 2 shorter breaks. My boss was a maniacal Sri Lankan women who ruled the factory floor with an iron fist and a bad attitude. You know what I learned from that experience? Don't work in a chocolate factory! If you do, quit tomorrow and I promise you your life will be better off.
And I never made another chocolate since - until now!
As Easter is approaching I thought It was only fitting to make some matcha green tea chocolates for my comeback. The recipe only has 2 ingredients and is super simple to make. Here it is:
- Mini cupcake liners
- Candy Moulds
- Microwavable Mixing bowl
- 200 grams of good quality White Chocolate - chopped in to small pieces
- 1 heaped tsp of cooking grade Matcha Tea Powder
- Cooking Spray
- Melt your white chocolate in a microwave in short 20 second bursts. Be careful not to heat it too much as it will go hard and burns easily. Alternatively you can use a metal bowl over some water. Just make sure to keep stirring the whole time. Set aside for a minute.
- Sift your matcha powder to remove any lumps
- Stir through matcha powder into the white chocolate mixture until is dissolved completely and there's no lumps or streaks.
- * Optional - Spray a tiny amount of cooking spray into your candy moulds to make it easier to remove chocolate
- Chill the chocolate moulds in the fridge for atleast 2-3 hours
- Remove from moulds carefully and enjoy!
