As spring is finally here, we have a new blissful matcha dessert recipe: Matcha Brownie Tarts  by the fabulous girl Anna from The Baking Spoon.

Anna’s recipe today is Matcha Strawberry ‘Brownie’ Tarts and they are both vegan and raw. The raw chocolatey brownie shell is made from healthy nuts and healthy carob powder.The flavours complement the smooth and mildly sweet matcha cream filling, and the fresh strawberries are the perfect finishing touch.

Vegan Strawberry Matcha Brownie Tarts (original link)

Brownie tarts filled with matcha custard and topped with fresh strawberries. The recipe is vegan, raw, and easy to make

Serves: 16-18 mini tarts


Brownie Shell

  • 1½ cups walnuts and almonds
  • ¼ cup carob powder (or cocoa powder)
  • ¼ cup organic maple syrup
  • A pinch of salt

Matcha Cream Filling

  • ⅔ cup raw cashews, soaked for 2-3h
  • ¾ -1 cup unsweetened vanilla almond milk
  • 2 tsps organic maple syrup
  • ¼ tsp pure vanilla extract
  • 1 tbsp matcha powder
  • A pinch of salt

Coconut Whipped Cream & Garnish

  • 1 can full-fat coconut milk, chilled for 24h
  • 1-2 tbsp sweetener of your choice
  • ½ tsp pure vanilla extract
  • Strawberries - small ones work best


Brownie Shell

  1. Blitz nuts + carob powder in food processor with chopping blade till finely ground & the mixture just starts to clump
  2. Sprinkle a few pinches of the mixture over each tart mold bottoms that lined with plastic wrap
  3. Mix syrup + salt into the remaining walnut mixture until a dough forms (If the dough is too sticky, add a tsp of cocoa powder)
  4. Pat the dough into the prepared tart molds

Matcha Cream Filling

  1. Soak raw cashews in water for at least 2-3h ahead of time
  2. Blend cashews + almond milk using Vtiamix or high-powered blender until the consistency is smooth (about 3 mins)
  3. Add in the rest of the ingredients, continue to blend until combined
  4. Pour the matcha mixture into each tart moulds
  5. Freeze for at least 2h or overnight

Coconut Whipped Cream

  1. Scoop the solid chilled coconut cream into a bowl, DISCARDING the water
  2. Beat it until fluffy and smooth using hand mixer or stand mixer with a whisk attachment
  3. Add sweetener + vanilla to taste, mixing until combined


  1. Slice strawberries but keep the respective bunch so you still have the whole strawberry
  2. Sift some matcha powder on the tarts, placing the strawberries at the center
  3. Pipe coconut cream onto the edge using piping bag fitted with any icing tip
